Established in 1968 to promote deeper understanding and closer relationships between the people of Malaysia and Japan. Since then, JLSM has been actively promoting the learning of Japanese language among Malaysians.
In the late 90s, JLSM expanded its activities to homestay programs in Japan as well as actively promoting Japanese culture by staging public events such as exhibitions, dance parades and workshops.
Since 2006, it organises the Annual Japanese Language Festival (JLfest) in Malaysia.
Bringing people of Malaysia, Japan and the world together through the learning and promotion of Japanese language and culture among members.
Language serves as a foundation for meaningful interactions of people, culture and arts.

JLSM is managed by a team pf Executive Committee members, assisted by full time staff. The EXCO members are volunteers.
